I do not view the labor movement as part of the problem. To me, it's part of the solution. You cannot have a strong middle class without a strong labor movement.

All the gentlemen here understand both the pressures and possibilities of this office. And for me to have the opportunity to get advice, good counsel and fellowship with these individuals is extraordinary. And I'm very grateful to all of them.
Barack Obama heaped praise upon an extraordinary group of men who gathered today at the White House. Current President George Bush hosted the past presidents luncheon, which included his own father, George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st president, as well as former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.

We can no longer afford to sustain the old ways when we know there are new and more efficient ways to getting the job done.
Barack Obama promises to scour the federal budget as he appoints Nancy Killefer to the newly created position of "chief performance officer", a White House level job that will be aimed at improving efficiency and eliminating waste in government.
